The San Diego Temple is cool but somehow it looks less like a church than a monastery. We Italians tend to associate the word 'church' with buildings shaped like a big (even huge) house (http://www.earth-photography.com/photos/Countries/Italy/Italy_Vatican_StPeters.jpg), not like a fortress or a castle (more like what I associate the San Diego Temple with). At the end of the day it does say 'temple' doesn't it? Maybe the implication is that it's something more than a 'simple' church - though us Catholics much prefer simplicity to complexity where churches are concerned. Anyway thanks for posting it, it's definitely worth visiting as a place of worship. Check this out: http://www.hotelsantacaterina.it/images/costiera-amalfitana-1-z.jpg

I hate it when they horribly alter the colour of the sky in the 1st and 4th photos. It makes the photo nauseating and repulsive. Unmodified photos are the best.

Wonderful article :)

One small correction - there is in fact another stave church outside of Norway. It was built in Norway during the 12th and 13th century, but later disassembled and moved to Schlesien in Poland in 1842, where it is known as "Kościół Górski Naszego Zbawiciela". It was originally known as "Vang Stavkirke" - a google search should turn up more - here's a link to the norwegian wikipedia entry: http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vang_stavkirke
